Wednesday 27 November 2024....6.30pm to 11.30pm... STICKS N SUSHI - launch party - Battersea Power Station, London SW11. I worked up the road in Nine Elms for five great years 1993 to 1998 when Nine Elms and Battersea Power Station were pretty much nothing going on areas. Now they have tube stations and lots of new restaurants and expensive blocks of flats. In December 1997 I want to a four gigs at Battersea Power Station ...Cast, Morrissey , Prodigy and Placebo. Also several other events , when they hired it out. Popular Sushi restaurant open their 15th location in the UK. Around 200 guests in their massive space here. The space features an open plan dining room, kitchen counter, lounge and bar, and outdoor terrace. This popular restaurant serves a range of sushi dishes along with sashimi, tartare, grilled sticks and generous set menus to suit varied budgets and tastes, for both takeaway and dining in. At 7.30pm we had speeches from the owners . Lots of complementary food and drinks all night. Collet champers prosecco, five different cocktails including Espresso Martinis , wines , beers , various sushi dishes along with the likes of black cod and tempura prawns . An excellent event. --------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------- Tuesday 26 November 2024. One of the greatest singles of all time was released 48 years ago today in 1976....yes 48 years ago... THE SEX PISTOLS 'Anarchy in the UK'. I played it non-stop when it came out. ------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------------------------------------ Tuesday 26 November 2024. PETER CAT RECORDING CO live at Shepherds Bush Empire. PCRC is world travelled, and not just from touring. The band is based in Delhi, but has spent considerable time in both London and San Francisco. They blend elements of Gypsy Jazz, Lounge, Pop, Disco, and Folk. This cacophony of influences produces a lush and wonderful Western sound palette to compliment the almost crooning style of the lead vocals. They are promoting their second album 'Beta'. They were special guests for Khruangbin on their UK tour which last week included three nights at Hammersmith Apollo. This show is sold out. Should be an interesting gig. ----------- Who are this band with the strange band name ? Someone knows, as the venue is totally rammed. Lots of white hipster folks. Also lots of brown hipster folks. PETER CAT RECORDING CO arrived on stage at 9pm and played for a full two hours . The band’s entrance, marked by fog machines and alternating spotlights, quickly revealed the psychedelia underlining their music. What stood out to me most was the band’s synergy– five musicians surrounded by over ten instruments, effortlessly sharing solos and switching instruments. Throughout the night, their sound evolved from indie-rock to soul and jazz, then synth and disco, while consistently embedded with Bollywood elements. The seamless transitions between trumpet, saxophone, drum, harmonium, and guitar solos– embedded with their released tracks– exemplified the band’s versatility. Folks are having a little sway and a little dance. The show ticked along nicely , and the crowd loved it. For me , I want something a bit more livelier .
