Tuesday 03 December 2024. DEL AMITRI live at Shepherds Bush Empire. Del Amitri is a Scottish alternative rock band formed in Glasgow in 1980. Best known for its 1990 single "Nothing Ever Happens" which reached No. 11 in the UK and its 1995 single "Roll to Me", which was a top 10 hit in Canada and the United States, it They have released seven studio albums, five of which have reached the UK top 10.They have sold over six million albums worldwide. I have seen them several times before, including four headline shows on different tours at Hammersmith Odeon/Apollo. They are on a UK & European Tour.... This show sold out in advance. ----------- The venue is rammed sold out, with a mainly older crowd. MANDRAKE HANDSHAKE arrived on stage at 7.50pm for their 40 mins set. They are named after a Brian Jonestown Massacre track. Seven of them on stage , including a female singer. Multi-dimensional Oxford/London collective Mandrake Handshake showcase a music they call ‘Flowerkraut’: a hedonistic, brain-frying feast of Krautrock, art-pop and psychedelia, spiced with enigmatic grooves and fearless improvisations. DEL AMITRI arrived on stage at 9pm for their 95 mins set. Five musicians on stage , including keyboards. Justin Currie (now aged 59) still fronts the band. Back in the day , bands like Del Amitri and The Stereophonics , were played all the time on Virgin Radio as they have plenty of radio friendly tracks. Nice vocal and nice harmonies all through the evening. Highlights included 'Kiss This Thing Goodbye', 'Always The Last To Know', 'Stone Cold Sober' and 'Nothing Ever Happens'. A very enjoyable show. Their Old Masters auction is held 03 / 04 December . The top lot of the sale is a rather fine Andalusian Horse by Van Dyck (pictured), estimated at £2m - £3m, a study which was executed for the artist's equestrian portrait of Charles V now in the Uffizi, Florence. Amongst the other highlights of the sale are a commedia dell'arte scene by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo at £1m - £1.5m, a Semon of St John the Baptist by Pieter Brueghel II at £800k - £1.2m, and a pair of Venetian views by Michele Marieschi at £600k - £800k. The sale also contains several high-value nineteenth century works, including pictures by Francesco Hayez, Gustave Courbet and Michael Peter Ancher. Complimentary Nyetimber English Sparkling Wines, Spiced Negronis and canapes for all the guests.
