THE HOT 8 BRASS BAND live at Shepherds Bush Empire. Drawing on the traditional jazz heritage of their hometown of New Orleans, the Hot 8 Brass Band are renowned for including elements of funk, hip hop, rap, and its local variation, “bounce” in their music. The band are on a UK & European Tour. ------------ Level 3 is closed, but all other levels are full. A mainly middle aged jazz lovin' crowd here. CRAIG CHARLES is the DJ from 7.30pm to 8.45pm. The actor and BBC Radio DJ played lots of good funky tunes to get the crowd warmed up. THE HOT 8 BRASS BAND on stage at 8.55pm for 85 mins. The stage is very sparse indeed. No guitar, no bass no keyboards, no full size drum kit. But we have six brass and two percussion and shared vocals. The Hot 8 Brass Band had a lively high-energy, New Orleans-style brass band sound, which blended hip-hop, jazz, and funk with traditional brass sounds. They played three good covers of 'Sexual Healing', 'Ain't No Sunshine' and encore of 'Lets Stay Together,'. A nice loud racket , that reminded me a bit of Troublefunk . An enjoyable show. The band held a free signing session in rear stalls after the show, to help sell their CDs and vinyl. ------------------------------------ ------------------------------------ Friday 28 March 2025. DAYGLOW live at Shepherds Bush Empire. Over the last few years, Texas-native singer and songwriter Dayglow has cemented himself as an indie pop innovator with his vibrant and memorable music. He will be performing tracks from his four studio albums. He released his first album , when aged just 17. As part of their UK and European Tour. ---------- Level 3 is closed tonight ,but still a very impressive 1300/1400 folks here , for an act I don't know much about The crowd are mainly aged under 30 student types. DELIAXOZ was on stage at 8pm for her 30 mins. She played a decent set of bluesy based tracks. Her and her guitar, and just a drummer for backing. DAYGLOW were on stage at 9pm for their 90 mins. A stage set with several lighted lampposts dotted around. The songs were catchy , upbeat indie-pop . The crowd were dancing and swaying and nodding along One of the encores was a cover of Tears For Fears ' Everybody Wants To Rule The World'. Many of the songs sounded samey, but a decent enough show.
