Wednesday 19 August 2026. PRIMUS live at Brixton Academy . Legendary Californian alt rock outfit Primus, known for their rubbery fusions of prog, metal and funk, head out on tour in the UK and Europe for the first time since 2017. Their amazing bass player Les Claypool is the only original member from their 1984 inception. I saw Primus supporting Rush at Wembley Arena back in the day -------- It is hot and humid in the 5000 capacity sold out Brixton Academy. An all ages crowd , ranging from teenagers to my age. The merch is doing big business , with long queues. PRIMUS arrived on stage at 8.30pm for their two hours over two sets of 55 mins and 65 mins Even during the funk metal boom of the early nineties which made Faith No More and Red Hot Chili Peppers stars, Primus felt too oddball to make it to the same level but in 2026 they are playing sold out shows in the UK. Les Claypool is renowned as one of the world’s greatest bassists , think a rock version of Level 42s Mark King. They are a challenging band and some of these tracks are stretched out and played at a deliberate pace. The crowd love them though. The band opens the second set with the playful two note bounce of ‘Welcome To This World’ and it creates a mighty groove. It’s then straight into the dense rhythmic thud of ‘My Name Is Mud’ which sees hundreds of phones thrust into the air filming it.The following ‘Jerry Was A Race Car Driver’ is greeted heroically and gets the crowd moving. Les brings out a bow and upright bass for the low end of the psychedelic ‘Jilly’s On Crack’. Lots of moshing and crowd surfing as expected. For the encore Les has his third outfit change , which includes a shimmery space helmet. Les incredible bass playing was the highlight of the show for me. --------------------------------------- --------------------------------------- Tuesday 18 August 2026. THE WEEKND + PLAYBOI CARTI + PRINCE 85 live at Wembley Stadium. The Weekend plays his fourth of five shows here. It is also my fourth time watching him. PLAYBOI CARTI was on stage at 7pm for his 35 mins. His usual shouty rap style went down well again with the crowd. Totally different style and sound to The Weeknd , but many knew his lyrics . THE WEEKND arrived on stage at 8.15pm for his usual 2 hours 10 mins . Didn't know much him before these shows , but was very impressed. Another different view, as we are at the rear of the gold circle. His stage extension is like a crucifix in style. We are stage left of the crucifix. A great view of the enormous main screen , although the b stage is still pretty distant. His synth pop tunes get the crowd bouncing and he mixes that with pop/ soul ballads. The incredible stage production has more flames , fireworks and lasers than any rock band show. It really was a proper visual treat. My scores for The Weeknd would be ...songs played gets a 9 , but the stage production has to a 10. --------------------------------------- --------------------------------------- Monday 17 August 2026....7pm to 9.30pm...press preview.... PENNINGTON'S in WINDSOR Penningtons Brasserie and Bar at the Castle Hotel Windsor on Windsor High Street opens on August 21, 2026. The new British brasserie operates daily from 12:00 PM to 11:00 PM, offering seasonal classic dishes, a dessert trolley, and a taproom-style bar. You can reserve a table directly via the Penningtons Brasserie Official Website. They have a soft launch opening with 50% off all food - 21 August to 18 September . Always nice to be in Windsor, which is as popular as ever with the tourists. A great location opposite the castle , and a few doors down from The Ivy. The decor inside is lovely , and the staff are all top notch. We are three snacks to share. A starter each . A mains with sides each . A dessert each . Two cocktails each ( will be £14 when they open) A bottle of sparkling water to share. --------------------------------------- --------------------------------------- Monday 17 August 2026. A good excuse to play this classic album again. It was released exactly 55 years ago in August 1971. The nine tracks include ' Baba O'Riley' , ' Behind Blue Eyes ' and 'Won't Get Fooled Again'.
