Comedy night at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
The Comedy Warehouse presents seven comedians...
WILL E ROBO did not appear and who was replaced by SHABBA
As it is a comedy show it is stalls seated but there must 800 or 900 here over all levels.
A long show of 2 hours 45 mins over two sets of 1 hour 40 mins and 1 hour 5 mins.
Seven acts perform great routines of around 20 mins each.
KANE BROWN starts off with his set them he does a bit between each as he acts as the host.
Six black acts ( 5 male and 1 female)
One white guy
The crowd were a nice mix of 50/50 black & white.
Lots of topics covered and lots of audience interaction.
Tonight was the best comedy night i have been to for ages...loads of hilarious LOL moments from all the acts.
It was like watching Richard Pryor in the current day.
Their next promotion is at The Broadway Theatre, Catford on 22 March 2020.
Several comedians will be there including Richard Blackwood.

Saturday 15 February 2020.
This was very sad news to hear.
Love Island presenter CAROLINE FLACK has died after taking her own life.
The presenter, 40, previously spoke of her struggles with mental health, writing online: "Be nice to people. You never know what’s going on".
Caroline took her own life at her London flat three weeks before she was due in court for what her management called a "show trial" for an alleged assault on her boyfriend.
BOB DYLAN Bourbon/Whiskey is now for sale in the UK.
Dylan launched the Heaven’s Door brand in April 2018 in collaboration with Angel’s Envy Bourbon founder Marc Bushala.
The Heaven’s Door range includes Tennessee Straight Bourbon Whiskey, Double Barrel Whiskey and Straight Rye Whiskey.
The trio of whiskeys will be available in the UK and Ireland through Drinksology Group’s distribution and marketing arm, When We Are Giants.
“This is an exciting milestone for us as we bring Heaven’s Door to the UK where Bob Dylan kicked off his first ever European tour more than 55 years ago,” said Bushala, CEO of Heaven’s Door Spirits.

THE FACES are to reform.
There will be more than just young pop stars on the stage at Tuesday’s Brit Awards – one act will be older than all of the eight other performers combined.
The Faces will reunite at London’s O2 Arena, with drummer Kenney Jones and Ronnie Wood joining Rod Stewart to be part of his set, which will close the ceremony.
I would imagine The Faces will play just one or two songs.

Thursday 13 February 2020.
STARSET + SICK JOY live at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
Starset are promoting their third album "Divisions" that came out in Sept 2019.
All three of their albums have made the Top 50 album charts back home in America.
Their critics in America call them " the American Muse" and "cinematic rock".
Levels 2 and 3 are closed tonight but stalls standing and Level 1 are full.
SICK JOY arrived on stage at 7.30pm for their 30 mins set.
They played a decent set of Nirvana type tunes.
I enjoyed watching the drummer as he had his cymbals set high and his hair covered his face
as he bashed away like Dave Grohl did in Nirvana.
STARSET arrived on at stage at 8.30pm for their 90 mins set.
There are six musicians on stage including two females playing violin & cello.
They are all wearing the same cloth attire with hoods.
There is a huge screen mixing pre-recorded images and live footage.
Those mini-cameras dotted around the stage are pretty amazing.
The show kicks off with A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE FUTURE, which sets the scene of a dystopian future divided by technology and the war for human consciousness. It plays like a radio transmission that has
been interrupted by singer Dustin Bates speaking his vocals.
‘MANIFEST’ is next and it hits you like a punch in the guts around the 20 second mark with their crunching Linkin Park sound.
Like the band, some of the crowd look like space/astrology geeks.
They play a very nice pair of cover versions.
After an hour there is a costume change where the guitar, bass and drums don space suits and helmets.
For the final song the singer walked through the stalls standing area to the delight of fans.
A very enjoyable rock show.
Full Starset setlist played tonight...
It Has Begun
Kashmir (Led Zeppelin cover)
Thunderstruck (AC/DC cover) (with extra drums on stage)
Bringing It Down
My Demons (Dustin sings final chorus in the crowd)
Outro Song (Africa - Toto : sung by all the crowd)
A few minutes after the show the band were signing stuff by the merch stand.
I have seen various merch over the years but this is a new one on me.
Of course it is related to the bands fascination with space.
For £80 you could buy a TELESCOPE with the bands logo and signed by the band.

Wednesday 12 February 2020.
ASGEIR + ZELAH live at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
Levels 2 and 3 are closed tonight but stalls standing and Level 1 are pretty full.
ZELAH arrived on stage at 8pm and played for 25 mins.
A female fronted London band who had some decent tunes.
They cannot believe they are playing this big venue, compared to their usual tiny venues.
ASGEIR arrived on stage at 9pm for their 85 mins set.
Icelandic folk singer, Ásgeir, is back with new single, ‘Youth’ from his fourth album,"Bury The Moon".
All the band are playing within a nicely lit up triangle , that looked like a giant pool/snooker triangle.
Asgeir is front middle , sitting behind his keyboards.
The songs were pleasant enough to listen too, but not enough visual excitement.
A few tracks were sung in Icelandic, that got big cheers from the crowd.
A decent enough show.
Straight after the show, Asgeir met fans at the merch stand in the foyer.

Tuesday 11 February 2020.
KIM PETRAS + DJ ALEX CHAPMAN live at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
German pop singer-songwriter Kim Petras who is based in Los Angeles has raked in millions of Spotify plays on her songs, along with garnering the undivided attention of a predominantly LGBTQ fan base.
Part of the reason she has gained so much attention from the community is due to her transgender identity. Petras underwent gender confirmation surgery at the age of 16, making her one of the youngest people to undergo the process.
This is the last show on her European Tour in support of her first studio album from 2019, "Clarity".
This show was sold out in advance.
The venue is totally rammed sold out and it has a nice buzzy atmosphere.
DJ ALEX CHAPMAN arrived on stage at 8pm for his 55 mins set.
The dj played just the right retro tunes including The Spice Girls and S Club 7 to warm the crowd up.
KIM PETRAS arrived on stage at 9pm for her 85 mins set.
You can see why there is a dj support as the show is a big production and there is no space for another band.
There are loads of lights and platforms and mini-staircases.
Petras appeared under full lights looking mega in a monochrome Barbie doll, tutu-style number. The 27 year old, German singer looked and sounded every bit the pop princess. Her hair was part blonde, part black in a sleek ponytail and she looked a combination of naughty but nice.
Kim Petras is a pop artist who also makes electronic dance music (EDM), dance-pop and electro-pop.
The only real downside was that all the music came from backing tapes as there was no band.
The crowd know the words to every song even though the album or singles never made the UK Top 40 chart.
There were four or five nice costume changes that all involved thigh high platform boots.
Lots of energetic dance routines too.
The uptempo poptastic tunes reminded me of Charli XCX.
There was a great cover of The Killers "Human".
A very enjoyable show.
There was a film crew filming all the show.
Kim Petras will be supporting Camila Cabello on her 2020 European Tour.
Promoters Live Nation have taken out another full page advert in The Standard paper for Madonna shows
in the hope of flogging a few extra ( very expensive) tickets for Feb 12, 13, 15, 16,.
Many of the shows did not sell out.

Monday 10 February 2020.
MARC ALMOND with CHRIS BRAIDE live at The Royal Festival Hall, London.
The inimitable singer performs a selection of hits and new material on the release of a collaborative album with songwriter and producer Chris Braide.
In their first performance together, the pair premiere material from Chaos and a Dancing Star, due for release in February 2020, alongside selected works from Almond’s celebrated career.
Marc Almond has released over 20 solo albums.
Marc Almond has sold over 30 million records (albums and singles) over the past 40 years.
I have seen Marc several times before - with Soft Cell and solo.
Chris Braide is a British songwriter, record producer and singer based in Malibu, Los Angeles. Braide is known for being a pianist.
I bumped into Sex Pistols legend GLEN MATLOCK and drummer CHRIS MUSTO here at this one-off show.
A nice long show of 2 hours 40 mins over two sets of 80 mins each.
A good sounding band featuring Neal X (ex SS Sputnik) on guitar and four backing singers (2 m , 2 f).
A big screen showed pre-recorded images.
Both sets featured mainly tracks from the new album along with a couple of Soft Cell classics.
Jethro Tull's IAN ANDERSON joined Marc for five songs for some nice flute playing.
"Hollywood Forever" was a ballad recalling faded stardom, and whose title is the name of a famous Los Angeles cemetery that Marc recommends to us as a place to visit.
Ian Anderson joins him for three songs including "Witches Promise" and a mega "Bedsitter".
"Slow Burn Love" the most pop-heavy track on the new album, which is also released as a single, is great.
"Torch" is another pukka Soft Cell gem.
A bunch of several songs with just Marc singing along to Chris Braide superb piano playing.
Marc forgets the lyrics a couple of times but it is the first time he has sung many of these songs live.
"Dandy in the Underworld" (T.Rex cover)
"Children of The Revolution " (T.Rex cover)
Ian Anderson back on stage to play flute along to two Soft Cell classics.
"Tainted Love" and "Say Hello, Wave Goodbye"
A great show.

Sunday 09 February 2020...9.15pm to 4.30am...
BAFTA OSCARS VIEWING PARTY , Annabel's , Berkeley Square, Mayfair, London W1.
The 92nd Academy Awards will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles. Despite more than a decade of the Oscars being given out towards the end of February, this year's ceremony has been moved forward.
The nominations for this year's Academy Awards have been announced, with Joker leading the pack with 11 nods.
The comic book villain origin story is up for best picture, best director and best actor for Joaquin Phoenix, plus eight other awards.
The Irishman, 1917 and Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood follow with 10 nominations each.
I was at Ham Yard Hotel for this event the last few years and they have now moved it to another venue.
The new venue is one of London's most exclusive members clubs....Annabels.
Around 200 guests at this luxurious venue.
Complimentary Piper-Heidsieck champers for the first hour.
Then it was a sit down dinner in their fabulous restaurant area, with wines.
Buffet style including salmon, beef, chicken curry, lamb etc and various desserts.
The staff are amazing here and fussing over all the guests.
At 11.30pm we go upstairs to the viewing area to watch the red carpet arrivals and awards on the big screen.
Here we had complimentary Espresso Martinis , Vodka Martinis , Bloody Mary's and later, bacon rolls and doughnuts.
Chris Rock and Steve Martin opened up Sunday night's Oscars by taking jabs at the biggest stars in the building at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, Calif. The 92nd Academy Awards marks the second year in a row the show had no host.
After an awards season marked by its predictability, the Oscars delivered a spectacular final-reel twist on Sunday evening, naming capitalist satire PARASITE best picture.
Bong Joon-ho’s comedy-drama about an impoverished family who infiltrate the household of a wealthier one is the first film not in the English language to take the top prize. It also took best director, best original screenplay and best international film.
Great to see Brad Pitt win Best Supporting Actor.
A few top notch music acts performed including Janelle Monae, Eminem, Billie Eilish, Randy Newman and
Elton John ( Elton won the Oscar for Best Original Song).
An excellent evening.

Saturday 08 February 2020...7pm to 1am...
GUN CONTROL live at The GAA Sports & Social Club, South Ruislip.
Gun Control , with me on drums play a 60th birthday party for our bass player (Pep) in Ruislip.
This means that all four original members on stage in the band are now 60 years young.
Our original singer is down in Southend and couldn't make it.
7pm to 7.30pm - we had a band soundcheck (the equipment was all set up already).
Around 80 or 90 guests are here tonight for the complimentary wines & beers bar.
Many of whom i have known for 40 years or more.
Guests quickly made use of the fun photo booth.
Pictures on the big screen of Pep included old photos of Gun Control from the early 1980s.
At 8.30pm - guests and band were all seated for the huge buffet.
At 9.30pm - we had a 30 mins set from THE BROTHERS.
The Brothers were a UK-based band that scored a top ten hit on the British chart with the song, "Sing Me." The sprightly, reggae-inflected song reached number 8 on the UK Singles Chart in the Spring of 1977. The band consisted of 5 real brothers...3 will be here tonight...check out their TOTP appearance on YouTube...
They played their hit single and a few catchy pop reggae classics to a backing tape to warm the crowd up.
At 10.30pm - we had a 30 mins set of Italian traditional folk music as Pep's family are Italian.
GUN CONTROL arrived on stage at 11.30pm for our ten song 40 mins set.
A friend of the band helped out as second vocalist and banged his tambourine.
The band with twin guitars were nice and loud.
As usual the start or finish to a couple of sings were slightly messed up but overall it went superb
as folks were dancing and clapping down the front.
Bearing in mind too that we only had the one rehearsal a couple of weeks ago.
I don't really wanna blow my own trumpet , but we rocked.
Full Gun Control setlist played tonight...

After we finished our set the dj played a few more dance tunes.
It was an excellent evening.

BRETT ELDREDGE + LAUREN JENKINS live at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
Country artist Brett Eldredge is playing his first ever headline UK tour, following on from his 2019 set at C2C: Country to Country.Brett (age 34) has had hit albums and singles back home in North America.
He is signed to Atlantic Records and released his debut single, "Raymond" on September 27, 2010.
Support comes from Lauren Jenkins.
Big Machine recording artist Lauren Jenkins has been a touring musician since she was 15 years old. The Texas born, Carolina-raised singer-songwriter chose a life that would fit perfectly in the songs she writes: across countless smoky bars, fake IDs, and endless miles on the road, music has been her one constant companion.
Level 3 is half empty but there must be 1700/1800 here out of 2000 capacity.
Tonight is the last night of the European Tour for both these acts.
LAUREN JENKINS arrived on stage at 8pm for her 30 mins set.
Lauren Jenkins played tracks from her debut album and covers by Bruce Springsteen and Oasis.
BRETT ELDREDGE arrived on stage at 9pm and played for 1 hour 40 mins.
There are a quite a few female fans down the front swooning at Brett.
While his looks are undeniable, so are his wide-ranging country and classic crooner voice, showmanship and goofiness, and emotional and personal storytelling.
Brett and his band are very polished and don't make a wrong move all night as they played their catchy
radio friendly "new country pop rock" with lyrics where you heard every word being sung.
Eldredge talked about growing up in the small town of Paris, Illinois, and penning his touching acoustic song “Raymond,” about his grandmother’s battle with Alzheimer’s. He followed up “Raymond” with a sweet and sentimental rendition of “The Long Way.”
Brett seems very pleased to be playing his biggest ever London show.
A very enjoyable show.
Full Brett Eldredge setlist played tonight...

ICE LONDON is held at Excel, East London.
Today was Day 2 of this massive 3 day event.
10,000 folks are expected to attend each day.
Over 200 gaming related stands here from many different countries.
Slot machines with great graphics, roulette wheels, gaming technology, neon everywhere etc.
Lots of promo girls in various outfits.
It looks like a giant Las Vegas casino in here.
Usain Bolt was here at 11am on one of the stands, but we missed him.
Big names here include Clarion Gaming, Novomatic, Aristocrat, Synergy, Fantasy Sports Interactive,
Playtech, BetConstruct, EGT, Comtrade Gaming, Stakelogic, Amatic, Realistic Games and many more.
Pretty soon after arriving i come across a stand playing Twisted Sister , nice and loud.
The stand is PlaynGo and there have a bar with four different complimentary cocktails.
A very nice random surprise to see rock legend DEE SNIDER from TWISTED SISTER was actually here.
Dee is here as there will be a Twisted Sister game being developed with PlaynGo.
At first i go up to the VIp/press area upstairs then Dee comes downstairs to greet the public.
I have a lovely chat to him about seeing Twisted Sister at Hammersmith Odeon and we talked
about the sadness of Motörhead members and Ronnie James Dio not being around anymore.
Dee forthcoming projects include producing a film.
Dee said he was in London just for a couple days then flying back to America.
A massive plus here was the swag that they were giving away so i managed to get...
Twisted Sister "Stay Hungry" album from 1984 and that has been licensed by Music On Vinyl...signed by Dee.
Dee Snider photo from the 1980s and a more recent photo of Dee...both signed to me.
A Dee Snider t-shirt and of course i got a photo with him...Dee was so nice and friendly.
Visit the PlaynGo website here for more info.
5pm - CasinoBeats drinks party
6pm - Spintec drinks party
7pm - Alfastreet drinks party
8pm to 10.15pm - Optimax drinks party (at a venue just outside Excel)
Throughout the day on every hour a couple of the stands are giving out complimentary drinks & food.
Very sad news that screen legend KIRK DOUGLAS has passed away at the incredible age of 103.

Tuesday 04 February 2020.
DEVENDRA BANHART live at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
Venezuelan-American lo-fi hipster folk singer-songwriter plays a sold out one-off UK show, as part of his
European Tour in support of new album (his 10th ) " Ma".
His fifth album "Cripple Crow" from 2005 on XL Recordings, is pretty good.
The cover is reminiscent of the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover.
VETIVER arrived on stage at 7.45pm for their 45 mins set.
Vetiver is an American folk band headed by songwriter Andy Cabic.
They are promoting their seventh album - "Up on High" (Mama Bird / Loose Music, 2019).
A very laid back set that went down well with the crowd.
DEVENDRA BANHART arrived on stage at 8.50pm for his 1 hour 40 mins set.
Devendra is here with a full band and he looks very much like a Shoreditch hipster.
Banhart did a great job of carrying mellow vibes throughout the show, but the audience’s excitement seemed to peak during the more upbeat songs of the evening.
He seems comfortable throwing out jokes as he delivered softly-spoken, dreamy heartfelt torch songs.
After an hour we had a full drum solo - but played with the drummer's bare hands.
Highlights included "Daniel", "Seahorse" and "Carmensita".
A pleasant show.
Happy Birthday to rock legend ALICE COOPER who is 72 today.

Sunday 02 February 2020.
ROGER CHAPMAN + PAPA GEORGE live at Shepherds Bush Empire, London.
Roger Chapman (now aged 77), is best known as a member of the progressive rock band Family, which he joined along with Charlie Whitney, in 1966 and also the rock, R&B band Streetwalkers formed in 1974. His idiosyncratic brand of showmanship when performing and vocal vibrato led him to become a cult figure on the British rock scene.
I saw Roger with Streetwalkers in 1975 and with The Family reunion show at this venue a few years ago.
It is stalls seated tonight as it is mainly an older crowd.
Level 3 is closed off so maybe 600/700 are here in total.
PAPA GEORGE arrived on stage at 8pm and played for 40 mins.
On his own with his steel guitar for some blues based songs including covers from the likes
of Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters.
ROGER CHAPMAN arrived on stage at 9pm and played for 95 mins.
A minimal stage production with all their equipment at the front half of the stage.
Roger is tall in stature and his great Joe Cocker like voice still sounds top notch.
Roger has a lyric book on a stand and gives it glances every now and then to prompt him.
A nice seven piece band that featured some nifty guitar playing from Geoff Whitehorn.
I am not that familiar with his material but it was a good mix of solo material and Family tunes.
Highlights included...
Who Pulled The Night Down
My Friend The Sun
Sweet Desiree
Habits of a Lifetime
Top Of The Hill
Shadow On The Wall

Paul McCartney was at The Super Bowl.
1917, which tells the story of two young soldiers sent on a perilous, near-impossible mission to prevent an otherwise certain massacre, won seven Baftas including best film and outstanding British film, best director for Mendes, sound, production design, special visual effects and, for Roger Deakins, best cinematography – his fifth Bafta.
I was at all five HARVEY WEINSTEIN BAFTA parties in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017.
They were mega , but obviously not happening anymore.

Saturday 01 February 2020.
The Wildhearts will head on a UK tour with Backyard Babies towards the end of January in support of their recent album "Renaissance Men", which was recently named the best album of 2019 by Classic Rock staff and writers.
I have seen The Wildhearts a few times including in 1996 when they were one of the support bands
for The Sex Pistols mega gig in Finsbury Park on their Filthy Lucre tour.
I saw them play a rockin' show in 2019 at Sub 89, Reading when they were supported by The Professionals.
I saw Backyard Babies three times around 20 years ago in 1998,1999 and 2001.
The 2001 show was when they supported Motörhead at this same venue.
A nice three band rock package tonight as all three have had a decent amount of success.
Downstairs is full tonight but the rear corners of the balcony are closed off as unsold.
CKY arrived on stage at 7pm and played for 40 mins.
They have released five albums but their early success in America has dwindled.
They have a few of their own fans down the front and played a decent set.
Tonight was not really billed as a co-headline show but both the main acts played 70 mins.
BACKYARD BABIES arrived on stage at 8.05pm.
A nice surprise was that their walk-on track was a Sex Pistols tune.
These sleaze rockers have released several albums that have charted back home in Sweden.
Really good uptempo rock n roll tunes that went down well with me and all the crowd.

THE WILDHEARTS arrived on stage at 9.45pm.
The Wildhearts have been dedicated to hard rock and punk metal for almost 30 years. There have been ups and plenty of downs, break-ups, line-up changes, drink, drugs and almost hits.
Ginger on vocals still has his full length dreadlocks swinging as he headbangs away.
Ginger has rock n roll in his veins and was pretty much the Lemmy of the 1990s.
Their loyal fans lapped up the frantic uptempo pace of the tracks played in the setlist.
Plenty of crowd surfing as 20 or 30 fans ended up in the pit as front stage pit security earned their money.
This is still plenty of life in The Wildhearts.
Full Wildhearts setlist played tonight...

Very sad news that ANDY GILL has passed away.
Andy Gill, guitarist and founding member of legendary post-punk band Gang of Four, has died today following a short respiratory illness...he was 64...
I saw Gang of Four play a few times during their heyday period of the late 1970s/ early 1980s.

Friday 31 January 2020.
Happy Birthday to Punk Icon JOHN LYDON who is 64 today.
A good time to play some classic Sex Pistols and Public Image Limited.
