But Broadcast Music, Inc. presented the BMI Icon Award to music legend John Lydon at its annual BMI London Awards held at London’s Dorchester Hotel, Park Lane,Mayfair, London W1. The BMI Icon designation is given to songwriters who have had “a unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers.” John Lydon joins an elite list of songwriters that includes 2011 recipient Queen, as well as Ray Davies, Steve Winwood, Van Morrison, Donovan, Don Black and Bryan Ferry, among others. “John Lydon is a true icon whose influence on music, fashion and art has been felt around the world. We are very pleased to recognise his impact on popular culture and his outstanding musical contributions with the BMI Icon Award,” said Del Bryant, BMI President and Chief Executive Officer. Around 300 guests are here at this famous five star hotel for dinner and drinks at the 30 tables. John is here with his wife Nora, John "Rambo" Stevens, Scott Murphy, Reggie along other family members and friends and staff from Universal Music. All the members of the current Public Image Limited are here but no Sex Pistols members are here. The event was held during the PIL UK tour held that month. Around 20 awards are given out, and John gets the main award at the end. They played a nice video montage of Sex Pistols and PIL classic clips on the big screen. John gets a full standing ovation when he goes up to collect the award and make a speech.
