Monday 22 March 2021.

Monday 22 March 2021. Over the past few years, many of the older musicians have been saying "rock is dead". The changes in the music industry have made them say that. When I grew up in the 1970s , we took it for granted that it would always be great. We had loads of record shops selling vinyl singles and albums, and there were a few weekly music papers which were the bibles where we got most of our info from. Apart from a couple of tv shows , there was no way you could see a band unless you went to a gig. There were no video recorders or YouTube. Hardly any record stores are left now, and all the weekly music papers have gone. In the 1980s and 1990s CDs were everywhere and the record companies and artists were laughing all the way to the bank. Nowadays bands seem to be forgotten about and female / male singers are the what record companies want to force on us. The classic artists from the 1960s and 1970s are gradually dying or retiring. Young folks don't appreciate how much money and effort it takes to make music , and just want to listen to it for free. Folks will always love going on see live acts, but it is a different world these days. ----------------- Tuesday 23 March 2021......another trip down memory lane as it was 16 years ago today.... 23 March 2005 . DAVE GOODMAN - A Life In Music ,The 100 Club , London. For The Sex Pistols and punk rock community, this was a great loss . Dave died last month . He produced loads of great Sex Pistols demos before the band signed to EMI and recorded "NMTB" with Chris Thomas, and Dave produced several other name bands. A really good turn out and a few punk band members here like Steve Diggle (The Buzzcocks) and Tony Barber (he had a stint as bass player in The Buzzcocks ) , Captain Sensible (The Damned) , Glen Matlock (The Sex Pistols ) , Poly Styrene (X Ray Spex ) and a few others from back in the day inc Sex Pistols roadies and Ron Watts who was The 100 Club promoter in 1976 for the legendary 100 Club Punk Rock Festival (I was both days for all of it). On Tuesday i will put a photo on the invite on my Facebook page. ---------- Sad news that football legend FRANK WORTHINGTON has died aged 72. He scored that wonder goal in 1979. Type in Frank Worthington Super Goal! to view it on YouTube. ------------------ Wednesday 24 March 2021. Happy Birthday to singer-songwriter NICK LOWE who is 72 today. I have seen Nick several times on stage over the past 40 years. ------------------ Thursday 25 March 2021. U2 are showing the second of four special shows on YouTube/U2...up for 48 hours only... This one is of their legendary performance for "Live at Red Rocks " 1983 show. I remember seeing this as a tv special back then. I have seen U2 around 20 times since 1980 when they were a support band. Each of their YouTube shows has an Irish support act which is a nice touch. Times should be around 7.30pm support act Fontaines D.C.and 8pm for U2. On March 25th fans can tune in to see U2: Live At Red Rocks recorded on June 5th 1983 at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado, United States on the band's War Tour. A career defining show, the rain-soaked performance at the iconic venue helped establish U2's reputation as one of the greatest live acts in the world. And another Grammy-nominated Dublin band, Fontaines D.C. will open the show with a performance recorded in their hometown last year. ---------- Happy Birthday to ELTON JOHN who is 74 today. I have seen Elton John live in concert around 40 times, since Dec 1974. ---------- World Cup 2022 football qualifying games are taking place before the delayed Euro 2020.
