Monday 23 August 2021. No real surprise that JOHN LYDON has lost the court case against his Sex Pistols band members due to the " band majority agreement " contract signed by all members, back in 1998. John Lydon / Rotten loses high court battle to stop Sex Pistols songs being used in new Danny Boyle TV series "Pistol" which is based on Steve Jones biography. Lydon attempted to stop drummer Paul Cook and guitarist Steve Jones from using the bands music in the show which will be released next year. Glen Matlock posted a smiley face on his Facebook account, after the verdict was announced. ------- Very sad news that UB40 saxophonist and co-songwriter BRIAN TRAVERS ,one of the founding members of the chart-topping reggae group, has died at the age of 62. His bandmates said they were "devastated" by the news about "our comrade, brother, founding UB40 member and musical legend". They said he had endured a "long and heroic battle with cancer". He had surgery to remove two brain tumours in 2019 and reportedly had another operation earlier this year. Travers was a key part of the UB40 line-up as a saxophone player, arranger and lyricist. The group, from Birmingham, found success in 1980 with Food For Thought, their first UK top 10 single, before having hits with I Think It's Going to Rain Today, One in Ten and covers of Red Red Wine and I Got You Babe. In total, they have recorded 39 UK top 40 singles and 28 top 40 albums, and sold 100 million albums worldwide. I have seen UB40 over 15 times since the start of their career, with the first time when they supported The Pretenders in 1980 at The Brunel University. --------------- Tuesday 24 August 2021.
