Tuesday 05 October 2021.

Tuesday 05 October 2021. PATTI SMITH + ED HARCOURT live at The Royal Albert Hall. Back again to see Patti at this venue for her second show. Today we had a covid check on entering the venue. The venue has 12 entrances , so maybe depends which door you go in. Like yesterday, the circle is 50% unsold. ED HARCOURT again played a good 35 mins set from 7.30pm. PATTI SMITH arrived on stage at 8.30pm and played for 1 hour 50 mins which was 10 mins more than yesterday, but that's mainly because she gave us several history lessons between songs on famous poets. As expected ,the setlist changed a bit, with a couple of songs added and taken away. As expected , tonight we get to hear the classic hit "Because The Night", which was not played last night. Patti Smith and Lenny Kaye just ooze effortless cool, and the crowd are a cool looking bunch too. Again, the overall sound quality of the vocals and the band is perfection. Again, everyone runs down the front at the end of the main set, and stay there. That classic line "Jesus died for somebody's sins.....but not mine" was great to hear. A different final encore which was a noisy and wild version of The Who's "My Generation ". Another excellent show. Full PATTI SMITH setlist played tonight.... Dancing Barefoot Redondo Beach Grateful Improvisation / My Blakean Year Birdland Blame It on the Sun (Stevie Wonder cover) Free Money I'm Free (The Rolling Stones cover) (sung by Lenny Kaye) Walk on the Wild Side (Lou Reed cover) Ain't it Strange Because the Night One Too Many Mornings (Bob Dylan cover) Pissing in a River Land Gloria (Them cover) Encore: People Have The Power My Generation (The Who cover) --------------------------------- Monday 04 October 2021. PATTI SMITH BAND + ED HARCOURT live at The Royal Albert Hall. This was the first of her two nights at this iconic venue. Patti Smith performs at The Royal Albert Hall for the first time..celebrating her career 1970 to 2021. Patti Smith is an American singer-songwriter and musician hailing from New York City, but born in Chicago. Smith was one of the most prominent figures in the '70s New York punk and art scenes, where she would earn the title of 'punk poet laureate', thanks to her passion for poetry. I have seen Patti perform around a dozen times including her legendary debut London show at The Roundhouse in May 1976, which was a few months before the legendary Sex Pistols/Clash/Damned and others 100 Club Punk Festival which was Sept 1976..Patti is now aged 74... ------------------ Needless to say, i am really looking forward to seeing Patti Smith. Venues including Shepherds Bush Empire and Hammersmith Apollo require your two jabs record or 48 hour home covid test for entry but oddly none of that needed here tonight. The upstairs circle is only 50% sold, but the rest of the venue is full. ED HARCOURT arrived on stage at 7.30pm for his 35 mins set. Ed was solo as he switched between piano and electric guitar. For his final song he walked into the side stalls seats. PATTI SMITH BAND arrived on stage at 8.30pm for their 1 hour 40 mins set. Patti arrives on stage to massive cheers, as her long grey hair covers her shoulders. In her band is Lenny Kaye along with her son and daughter. She starts the show with a stunning version of "Piss Factory" then an equal "Free Money". All through the evening we have fans shouting out " I Love You / We Love You". They dedicate a Rolling Stones cover to Charlie Watts and the demise of Denmark Street. A stunning version of "Gloria" has all the fans rush to the front of stage and the entire venue is up and dancing. The opening encore of "People Have The Power" was another top notch gem. Her warm on stage chat and personality went down well with the crowd. Oddly she does not play her classic hit " Because The Night", but she changes the setlist a bit each night so no doubt she will play it the following night. Patti still has the power...an excellent show. Full PATTI SMITH setlist played tonight....
