THE WATERBOYS live at The Roundhouse.
I have seen The Waterboys several times, with the first time back in 1984 when they supported
U2 at Brixton Academy......their track "The Whole of the Moon" is a total 1980s classic.
I saw The Waterboys play a great gig at this venue in 2019.
The Waterboys are promoting their 2020 album (their 14th) "Good Luck Seeker".
THE WATERBOYS are on stage for two hours - two sets of 60 mins each.
Few bands have as great a live reputation as The Waterboys. From their mid-1980s “big music” period through the influential mix of Celtic, gospel and country on their classic "Fisherman’s Blues" tours, to the most recent album "Good Luck, Seeker ", The Waterboys have consistently blended tightness, inspiration and improvisation to reach heights of performance few other acts can.
Led by mercurial and brilliant Scottish guitarist/vocalist Mike Scott, the 2021 version of the band features the established line-up of Memphis keyboard great “Brother” Paul Brown, Irish electric fiddler Steve Wickham, ace British drummer Ralph Salmins and funky Irish bassman Aongus Ralston.
Mike Scott still has that distinctive voice singing his great lyrics.
The band sound fantastic with plenty of piano, pounding keyboards and electric fiddle.
Many times they get stuck into instrumental workouts that are simply stunning.
Highlights included "Ladbroke Grove Symphony", " A Girl Called Johnny" and a mega
encore of their anthem " The Whole of the Moon".
A great show.
