Friday 19 November 2021. NEW RULES + NATHAN SMOKER live at Shepherds Bush Empire. New Rules are an English-Irish pop boy band that formed in 2019. They have released a few singles and recently signed to Electra Records. ------------------ Maybe 90 per cent of the crowd are excitable females under the age of 30. Plenty of mums and dads around to keep an eye on their kids. Another show with 100 folks on the guest list. Levels 2 and 3 are closed as unsold, but there must 700/800 here. NATHAN SMOKER arrived on stage at 8.10pm for his 25 mins. He has been on the tv programme "The Voice" and performs to a backing tape. He mixes original songs with cover versions. He reminded me of Olly Murs. NEW RULES arrived on stage at 9pm and play for a mere 55 mins. At least New Rules are a boy band who play all their own instruments. They sound is in the same vein as bands like McFly. Openers "Really Wanna Dance With You" and "Night Like This" were very catchy. A lot of the songs sounded samey but overall it was decent enough. The females are singing along to pretty much every song. The crowd seemed bemused, as did i , that there was no encore. The cynic in me says they finished early so the female fans had plenty of time at the merch stand after the gig.
