05 Nov 2007.The 3rd Classic Rock Awards At The
Landmark Hotel,London.This was a stunning turnout
of rock legends.Some 300 people seated for dinner
and we are part of the 20 or so standing.
7pm to 8.15pm is the champagne reception and its
rock stars everywhere you turn.Jimmy Page,Steven
Tyler,Alice Cooper,Thin Lizzy,Thunder,Chris Squire(Yes),Tony Iommi,Geezer Butler,Ronnie James Dio,Lemmy,Biff Byford(Saxon),Bruce Dickenson,Killing Joke,Chad Smith(RHCP),Anthrax,
Joan Jett,Status Quo,Joe Elliot,Ian Hunter,
Mick Ralphs,Fish,Ian Paice,Jeff Beck,Black Stone Cherry,Glenn Hughes,Nick Mason,the singer from The Answer.Also some behind the scenes music biz
legends like John Giddings,Rod McSween,Neil Warnock,Ross Halfin and Geoff Barton.Duff(from Guns and Roses/Velvet Revolver)presented
Best Reissue Award to Kiss Alive 1975 to 2000
but sadly Kiss were not here.(Duff told me The Sex Pistols show a couple of weeks ago in L.A was
superb but he had to get back to L.A.the next day so would not be at Brixton shows).About 15 awards tonight including Porcupine Tree who picked up the the award for Best Album,
Steven Tyler picked up Best Live Event Of The
Year for Aerosmith Hyde Park show.Jeff Wayne
picked up an award for Best Showman for his
War Of The Worlds tour.The main award of the night was presented by Steven Tyler to Jimmy Page for Living Legend.A fantastic evening.See

03 Nov 2007.Urban Music Awards at The New Connaught Rooms Hotel,Holborn,London.This was an
evening dedicated to UK hip hop and its related scene.With English teenagers more interested in American hip hop than homegrown its very hard
for UK artists to break through.A mad mix of
faces from music,fashion,sport,politics,tv etc.
Linford Christie,Jade Goody,Bianca Gasgoine,
Terri Walker,MP George Galloway,Keisha White,
Omar,(he sung a brilliant version of his old hit
"Theres Nothing Like This),Lisa Mafia,Nicki Grahame,The Pub Landlord Al Murray,Nate James,
Martin Offiah,Davinche,UFO (won best unsigned
act - not to be confused with the rock band),
Raymonde And Co(won best gospel act),UB40 won
The Lifetime Achievement Award and Ali Campbell
and his solo backing band sung "Hold Me Tight".
About 500 here seated at tables with free booze and small buffet.From start to finish it lasted
over 3 hours as they let loads of unknown talent
perform.A bit hit and miss at times but the
organisers did a great job overall here.
A nice goodie bag at the end as sponsors Kickers
gave everyone a pair of shoes and even sprinter

02 Nov 2007. Rollin Stoned + David Sinclair
Band live at The Music Palace,159a Tottenham Lane, Crouch End, London .A first time for me at
this neat venue that is promoting more and more live music.(on Thurs 6 Dec they host the first London show by Devon Allmans Honeytribe -son of
Greg).Up first we have David Sinclair band.
Lots of great lyrics in tunes like "Lifes Too Serious" and "Going To Do Something".They have an album out called "Hey" on Critical/Proper.

is packed for The Stones number one UK tribute
act.A very entertaining 1 hour 45 mins songs of
pure fun and Stones gems inc "Brown Sugar",
"Start Me Up","Angie","Paint It Black","Street
Fighting Man","Miss You","Satisfaction","Get Off Of My Cloud" etc and a dozen girls invited on stage for "Honky Tonk Woman".Encores include

Autobiography at Getty Images Gallery,46 East
Castle Street,London W.1.(behind Oxford Circus).
This was a very enjoyable couple of hours to
launch Erics book and the images of Eric at this
venue which runs until Nov 24 .Free admission. www.gettyimagesgallery.com .The free
champers and canopes are flowing for a select crowd of only 50 or 60 of Erics family and friends.Eric Clapton is here with wife Melia and his 3 young children are running around.Other
faces here inc Jeff Beck,Bill Wyman,Steve Winwood
and England football team manager Steve McClaren
The reviews i have seen of Erics book have been
very good as Eric has been very honest in it.

31 Oct 2007.The Eagles live at 02 Indigo,London.
After a week of shows in Los Angeles this was a
special show to promote their new album " The Long Road Out Of Eden" which is their first release of new music for 28 years.This show was
not open to the public.About half the people here are via the record company inc press and
comp winners and the other half are corporate
guests who have boxes at 02 Arena like NEC,Credit
Suisse,BMW etc and they have paid a staggering
500 to 1000 pounds to be here.So there is about
750 seated downstairs and 750 seated upstairs.
But first my guest vip ticket gets me a 3 course
meal and drinks before the show and a goodie
bag with Eagles shoulder bag,cd,t shirt and poster.My seat is just 10 rows from stage dead
centre.The Eagles are on for 1 hour 45 mins from
8.45pm to 10.30pm and are superb.The sound quality and vocal harmonies are just stunning.
They open up with four new album tracks then a
host of classic tracks from their career where
they have sold over 120 million albums.We get
sublime versions of "Hotel California" and
"One Of These Nights " also "Lyin' Eyes","The
Boys Of Summer","The Long Run",Joe Walsh was
brilliant on vocals for "In The City" and "Lifes Been Good" then "Dirty Laundry" , "Heartache
Tonight" and "Life In The Fast Lane" then encores
of two early 1970s tracks both recorded in London
"Take It Easy" and "Desperado".I saw them at
Twickenham Stadium a year ago and to see them
here in this small venue was a real treat.Has to
go down as one of the gigs of the year.And there
was an hour of free booze after the show.........
30 Oct 2007.Nine Black Alps live at HMV, 150 Oxford Street,London.A free show to launch their
second album "Love/Hate" on Island Records.They
are post grunge indie rock with great guitars
and rumbling bass.Only 6 songs in 25 mins tonight
inc "Not Everyone","Everytime I Turn","Forget My
Name" and "Heavier Than Water".The new album is a
bit more melodic but its all good stuff.You can
buy the album for only 5 quid this week in HMV
with a voucher from NME..........................
29 Oct 2007.Launch Party for "Marie Helvin - The
Autobiography" at The Ivy,Covent Garden,London.
Very nice couple of hours here of posh canopes
and champers at one of Londons top celeb eating places for this book party by one of the
original supermodels of the 1970s and 1980s whose
best friend was Jerry Hall.Not very music related you may say but of the 50 people here one
was Paul Simonen (bass player with The Clash and
now in The Good The Bad And The Queen)..........
Paul Marko has at last got his excellent book out
on legendary punk club The Roxy .To buy it check www.amazon.com .I did a couple of interviews for
it as i went to a few of the shows there in 1977.

28 Oct 2007.Ian Hunter And The Rant Band + Jesse Malin live at The Shepherds Bush Empire,London.
Jesse Malin has been floating around for a few years and is one of those american acts that
should be a lot bigger over here.Loads of
great songs and great on stage banter.He played some tracks off his new album "Glitter In The
Gutter"inc the excellent single "Broken Radio".
He also played a cover of "Death Or Glory" by
The Clash.He comes back to headline his own London show on Nov 6 at The Islington Academy.
I have a soft spot for Ian Hunter as his band
Mott The Hoople were one of the first bands i ever saw live way back in 1973.He played a full
2 hour set.The second song was golden oldie
"Once Bitten Twice Shy" then we had a bunch of
tracks from new album "Shrunken Heads" but
Ians voice could not hit any high notes.The show
got really good in the second half as he played
"23a Swan Hill","Resurrection Mary" and "Just Another Night" Chris Spedding then come on
for one song then Mick Ralphs came on for "All
The Way From Memphis".Encores were superb as
Jesse Malin shared vocals for "Roll Away The Stone" and everyone on stage for "Saturday Gigs" and a stunning "All The Young Dudes".............
27 Oct 2007.Sex Pistols Experience + Steve Dior
And The Delinquents live at The 100 Club,London.
This was a special show to celebrate the 30th
anniversary of "Never Mind The Bollocks" which is
in the shops again from 29 Oct 2007 in a special
vinyl edition.Up first we have Steve Dior and band.They inc include Sid Mayall on drums.His dad
comedian Rick Mayall is here to watch it.Good to
see Steve Dior again as he played with some decent bands like The Idols and London Cowboys
back in the day.Sex Pistols Experience were on
stage for around 2 hours and played nearly all
The Sex Pistols related tracks there is.First we
had b sides and covers like "Did You No Wrong"
and "Stepping Stone" then a stunning middle
section where they did NMTB in track order.Chaos
down the front as the crowd really got into it.
"Holidays In The Sun","God Save The Queen",
"Pretty Vacant","Anarchy In The UK","EMI" etc.
The whole band were really on top form.The third
section lost the momentum a bit as they played
some Sid related songs but the appearence of
their Nancy on stage was great fun.This nicely
warmed everyone up for the real Pistols who
play in less than a fortnights time..............
26 Oct 2007.Kaiser Chiefs live at The Roundhouse,
London.Back to see them again for the second time this week but as this was a show for The BBC
Electric Proms there were a couple of surprises.
Like Macca yesterday they had an orchestra play
with them for a few songs.Again it was all the
best songs from their two albums over a 65 mins set .They played an interesting cover version
of "Jet" the old Paul McCartney and Wings track.For "Ruby" they were joined by The Ukulele
Orchestra and they had four drummers come on stage for "The Angry Mob".They finished off with
"Land Of Hope And Glory" with balloons falling
from the ceiling.Another great lively show.......
25 Oct 2007.Paul McCartney live at The Roundhouse,London.Macca back in London for his
third small show this year as hes already played
The Electric Ballroom and The ICA.Paul and his
band played a superb 95 mins set of Beatles ,Wings and solo tracks inc "Magical Mystery Tour","Got To Get You Into My Life",
"Dance Tonight","Only Mama Knows","C Moon",
"The Long And Winding Road","Here Today","Blackbird","Eleanor Rigby",and mega versions "Band On The Run","Back In The USSR" and
"Live And Let Die" complete with explosions and fireworks and singalong of "Hey Jude".More
classics for the encores inc "Let It Be","Lady Madonna","I Saw Her Standing There" and "Get Back".The crowd were more hardcore than the
Electric Ballroom show i saw but i prefer the
Electric Ballroom as its a better venue to see
a band.An excellent show.I spotted a few faces
here like Stella McCartney,George Martin,Harry
Hill,Jamie Cullum,Twiggy and Chris Evans........
24 Oct 2007.Siouxsie Sioux live at The Electric
Ballroom,London.This was a BBC Electric Proms show dedicated to John Peel.Siouxie looks every
inch the gothic punk queen dressed head to toe
in a tight black outfit.I was at her first ever
gig in 1976 at the 100 Club where she started a
band with Sid Vicious as fans of The Sex Pistols
and she is still super cool over 30 years later.
On tour for the first time as a solo artist to
promote the "Mantaray" album.She starts of with
three fantastic Banshees classics "Dear Prudence","Arabian Knights" and a superb "Hong
Kong Garden".She then plays a whole bunch of new
album tracks with highlights "Here Comes That Day" and "Into A Swan".While Siouxsie is totally
mesmerising her backing band sounded a bit flat
at times.The encores inc a cover of The Doors
"Hello I Love You".She complained of being knackered a couple of times so perhaps thats
why we did not get the last two songs on the
planned setlist which were "Spellbound" and
"Loveless".Still it was a really good 70 mins.
This was her third of four London shows.She also
plays The Roundhouse in Camden on 5 Nov.........
23 Oct 2007.Kaiser Chiefs + Nine Black Alps live
at The Scala,London.This was an invite only show
for 500 or so comp winners to celebrate the
10th anniversary of XFM Radio 104.9fm.From those
early days when Ricky Gervais was a dj with them
they have always been my preferred station.When
i set this 100,000 plus word site up XFM was
always on in the background.First band up Nine
Black Alps have a great heavy guitar sound and
they played some tracks from their second album
"Love/Hate" which is out next week i think.Needless to say seeing a band as huge as
The Kaisers in this small venue is superb.The
band play a full 70 mins and give it 100%.Loads
of great songs inc "Everyday I Love You Less And
Less","Everything Is Average Nowadays","Na Na Na
Na Naa","Modern Way","Born To Be Dancer","Ruby",
"The Angry Mob" and "I Predict A Riot" with the
singer jumping into the crowd.Encores inc a manic "Oh My God".A great show.Listen to XFM

20 Oct 2007.The Police + Fiction Plane live at Wembley Arena,London.The support band features
Stings son on vocals which is handy as they have
done the whole world tour with The Police.They
too are a 3 piece who although young are more
concerned about being good musicians than wearing
fancy threads.They also sound like The Police in
places too. They played a decent 45 mins set.
The Police show tonight is the last date on their
European Tour.The stage looks great as they have
crammed in most of their Twickenham production
i went to 6 weeks ago.Indeed its the same setlist
over 1 hour 50 mins inc "Message In A Bottle",
"Synchronicity","Walking On The Moon","Dont Stand
So Close To Me","Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic","Wrapped Around Your Finger","De Do Do Do
De Da Da Da","Invisible Sun","Cant Stand Losing You","Roxanne" and encores inc "King Of Pain",
"So Lonely" and "Every Breathe You Take".The band
are all great musicians and the sound is great.
They last played here on 31 Dec 1983.Loads
of big hits again although as it was the last night of the European Tour i expected the
crowd to be wilder than they actually were but
overall a really enjoyable show..................
19 Oct 2007.Sex Pistols Experience live at The
Inn On The Green,Ladbroke Grove,London.As most
of you know any Sex Pistols related stuff is close to my heart.SPE play an excellent 65 mins of Pistols classics.The band really sound and look like The Pistols from the 1977 era.Great
guitar riffs and the Sid and Johnny on top form
for all the gems inc "Holidays In The Sun",
"New York","Did You No Wrong","Pretty Vacant",
"Liar","EMI"."Bodies","Problems","God Save The Queen" and "Anarchy In The UK".A great set.
In the crowd was comic legend Adrian Edmondson
as his son Sid(yes named after Sid Vicious)was playing in tonights decent support band.
SPE play their full 90 mins set at their headline

18 Oct 2007.Swarovski Fashion Rocks live at The
Royal Albert Hall,London.Back in London for the
first time since 2003 this was a massive night for fashion,music and glamour for this upmarket
crowd.Basically 13 acts played one song each as
models on the catwalk around the stage paraded in
outfits by the worlds top designers.Highlights will be on Channel 4 tv this weekend.Hosted by
Samuel L Jackson and Uma Thurman.The acts were in
order Shirley Bassey,Lily Allen,Razorlight,
Roisin Murphy(ex Moloko),Marc Almond,Alicia Keys,
Iggy Pop And The Stooges.Easily the nights best
highlight as they tore into "I Wanna Be Your Dog"
with Iggy barechested and twisting his body near
the models before jumping into the crowd.Then Shy Child,Joss Stone,The Gossip.A big girl with a big voice.Beth was the next best after Iggy.
Timbaland,Nicole Scherwinger(Pussycat Dolls)and
then a massive surprise as Whitney Houston came on to introduce Patti Labelle and The Sugababes.
Whitney did not sing as the last few years she
has been consumed with drink,drug and marriage problems.During the interval i bumped into a
very pretty girl called Ava Leigh who actually
sang one of her songs to me for about 3 mins.
Amazing stuff in a pop reggae style.She is signed
to Virgin Records.Check her out on www.myspace.com/avaleigh.....there were 3 or 4 afterparty events.The main one was at Baglionis in Kensington High Street where all the A listers
headed for but we had to settle for a couple of hours of free booze and djs at Christopher Kanes
bash at The Cafe Royal Grill Room.All in all quite an excellent evening.......................
17 Oct 2007.Dizzie Rascal + Sugarhill Gang live at Roast ,Sandringham Road,Hackney,London E.8.
Quite a long trek out here from Shepherds Bush
to the Hackney area for this invite only party
for Sony Walkman.About 500 trendy folks are here
knocking back the free cocktails.The venue is like a 3 storey house/pub with djs upstairs and bands on the ground level.Sugarhill Gang brought
their 1980s american hip hop and it went down very well.A short 25 mins set inc "Rappers Delight" and for the last song they were joined
by Dizzie Rascal who then went on to play his own 25 mins set.The packed crowd loved that too.
Celebs inc Heather Graham(actress),Noel Fielding
(comedian)and singers Johnny Borrell(Razorlight)
and Brett Anderson(Suede).A good bash...........
16 Oct 2007.7.45pm to 10.45pm.Launch party at Hard Rock Cafe, London for "Queen Rock Montreal 1981 " DVD.Invite only bash for 200 people.The
free booze and Hard Rock food is flowing nicely.
Brian May is here along with Queen manager Jim
Beech,Bob Geldof and Ian Paice(Deep Purple).
Brian May gives a 10 mins introduction and says how the DVD is much better than the VHS version
that has been on sale.Then we have 60 mins edited
version on the big screen.Like any Queen show there are loads of classic songs in it and well
worth buying.Its in the shops on Mon 29 Oct
....................then 11pm to 12.30am on to
The Dorchester Hotel up the road to see Peter
Gabriel pick up the Icon Award at The BMI Awards for songwriting.Also here collecting awards were Him and Aha......................................
13 Oct 2007.Dream Theater + Symphony X live at
Wembley Arena,London.A double bill of bands from
the "progressive metal" genre.Symphony X were ok
enough but i was not that keen on the vocals but
the crowd liked them.Dream Theater have done well
to play this venue.Its not sold out but 7000
is still impressive as they never get played on
the tv or radio and its a credit to their loyal
fans who have turned up in force here.Like Rush
they are total musos with a stunning guitarist
and one of the worlds greatest rock drummers.
Their songs all seem to last 10 mins or so and the stalls standing fans at the front loved it.
They played a superb cover of Marillions
"Sugarmice" and others like "As I Am" and "I Walk Beside You" were very good.The 2 hours 10 mins set was good to watch....................

12 Oct 2007.Night Of Treason live at The Crown
And Treaty Pub,Uxbridge,Middx.Bit of a trek out
to this place on the outskirts of West London.
Night Of Treason are a great punk rock covers band who play all the songs i really love.Two
sets lasting some 1 hour 45 mins feat Sex Pistols,Clash,Damned,Ramones,UK Subs,Ruts etc.
Not as lively front of stage as their Guildford
Festival show but still great fun.A nice Spinal
Tap momemt here where the ladies toilet had to be
accessed by the girls walking up the steps of the stage as the band played as the toilets were acually on the stage right.A funny sight.
The band play an unofficial Sex Pistols Brixton

10 Oct 2007 Rush live at Wembley Arena,London.
Back again to see Rush.Some bands like Prince
or The Rolling Stones swop their setlist around
a bit but Rush played the same set as the night
before i think and word for word they did
say exactly the same chat between songs.The wall
of sound still sounds great though as the three of them get in a real groove .The fans with stalls seats stand up again all through the set which for nearly 3 hours must have been hard work but i am glad to be in comfy side seats.The best pair of songs again were "Spirit Of Radio" and "Tom Sawyer" for me.Another good show........
09 Oct 2007.Rush live at Wembley Arena,London.
Canadian rock legends back in the UK to promote
recent album "Snakes And Ladders".The band played 2 sets and on stage in total for around
2 hours 40 mins.Rush have a really nice big
stage production with 3 giant screens showing
neat graphics mixed with live footage and there
is fireworks,lasers and flames too.They are all
total musos but they sound great.Geddy Lees voice
can get on your nerves a bit and the lyrics can
be nonsense at times.I saw them 5 times in
the 1970s inc their first London show in 1977
and the songs still last 10 mins each it seems.
Needless to say the drum solo was amazing.
They played "Circumstances","The Way The Wind Blows","Natural Science" and stunning versions of
"Spirit Of Radio" and "Tom Sawyer".Sadly with
so much material to choose from they did not play
"Fly By Night","Bastille Day" or "Closer To The Heart".Overall Rush put on a very good show.
All 3 members of The Manic Street Preachers were
watching the show in front of me.................
08 Oct 2007.The Q Awards at The Grosvenor House
Hotel,Park Lane,London.Back to this posh hotel
for the second time in 3 days for one of the
best music awards shows of the year.As usual its a full 12 hour bash that starts at noon and
finishes at midnight.Noon to 1.15pm is champers
and cocktails reception...1.15pm to 2.30pm is the
awards itself which is again hosted by Jonathan
Ross who is just superb.500 people are here.450 are seated and 50 are standing.Big names here
winning or presenting inc Paul McCartney(won The
Icon Award),Shirley Bassey,Kylie Minogue,James Blunt,Ian Brown,Manic Street Preachers,Kaiser Chiefs,Stereophonics,Kate Nash,Muse,Arctic Monkeys,The Enemy,Billy Bragg,Michael Eavis,
The Good The Bad and The Queen,
Magic Numbers,Johnny Marr,Peter Hook,Sigur Ros,
Mark Ronson and a few others...2.30pm to 4.30pm
we all have a lovely 3 course dinner with drinks
...5pm to 6pm stop off in Mayfair for a couple of
coffees and fresh air...6pm to midnight is the
aftershow party at The Cafe De Paris.Most of the
acts dont bother with this and go elsewhere but
Damon Albarn and Paul Simonon from The Good The
Bad And The Queen are here knocking back the
freebie Appleton Rum Cocktails and The Magic
Numbers are here.The best thing here is that
the whole venue is decorated in a punk theme
to celebrate the rerelease of Sex Pistols "God Save The Queen" so there are Pistols films
and videos on the big screen,huge 6 feet posters
of the band hanging from the ceiling and there
are male and female punk models and dancers.
The many djs played their tunes with the Pistols
footage playing above them.An excellent bash.....
Monday sees Sex Pistols classic single "God Save The Queen" rereleased.NME are behind a push to
make it number one this week so go out and buy

06 Oct 2007.Tom Jones + Beverley Knight live at The Grosvenor House Hotel,Park Lane,London.
This was a lavish invite only party to celebrate
25 years of Next ,the high street retail shop.
About 1200 people here.One of those corporate gigs which does not get listed on the acts
websites at all but its a nice little earner.
Tom Jones is on first as its 10.45pm.Its a short
55 mins set but the crowd love it.A mix of covers and hits like "Delilah","Its Not Unusual",
"Kiss","Sex Bomb" and "Whats New Pussycat".Its hot and sweaty down the front.After an interval
Beverley Knight comes on and plays a good 40 mins set.She is filling the role of the new Tina Turner nicely.A great mix of rock and r n b .
She plays a stunning version of "Black Butta" that for me was one of the best songs on the
last "Later With Jools Holland" tv series and
ends with her old hit "Come As You Are".A great
party and every guest got a huge goodie bag of

03 Oct 2007.The Jam "Unseen" Photos Private
View launch party at The Movie Poster Art Gallery,Colville Place,London W1.(nearest tube is
Goodge Street).This was a showing of rare Jam
photos by Twink from the forthcoming photo book.
An enjoyable couple of hours here as all the
current line up of From The Jam are here.Bruce
Foxton,Rick Butler,Russell Hastings and Dave
Moore.Also nice to see big Jam fan actor Shane
Richie and singer Darren J Connett.Loads of great photos from The Jam in their prime are here.Its free to get in from Oct 6 to 20 and well
worth a pop in when you are up the West End.
From The Jam start a major tour on Nov 24 that
includes 2 London shows at The Kentish Town Forum on Dec 19 and 20...........................
01 Oct 2007.Incubus live at The Brixton Academy,
London.Last of 3 sold out shows by Incubus at this venue to promote their recent album "Light Grenades".I have seen them before supporting at festivals but i recently got their excellent live
DVD "Alive At Red Rocks" which is great viewing.
The crowd are really up for it and there are
loads of young women here to swoon over the lead singer.The band are great musicians and the overall sound is tight and clear and the dj
scratching some beats really mixed in well.
The 90 mins set had lots of rockin tunes like
"Are You In ","Drive","Meglomaniac" then the
singer took his shirt off for "Favorite Things"
and versions of "Nice To Know You" and encore
"Wish You Were Here" were both excellent.A really
good show........................Oct and Nov will
be a great period for my fave band The Sex Pistols.In October all their first four singles are rereleased on 7 inch vinyl with original covers... Oct 1 = Anarchy In The Uk...Oct 8 = God
Save The Queen...Oct 15 = Pretty Vacant...Oct 22
= Holidays In The Sun...Oct 29 = Never Mind The

and Glasgow Nov 18.Also shows in Dublin and

Well my idea to compete with the big boys by
changing from best blog to best unofficial site
has backfired a bit as the site came in at 185
after a host of big websites.Still good though
