Thursday 07 July 2022...2.30pm to 10.45pm... SOHO HOUSE FESTIVAL, Gunnersbury Park, West London. A new location for this top notch event, that changes venue every few years. I have been to it pretty much every year , over the past 15 years...bar covid years 2020 and 2021. Most of the 5000 folks here have paid £325 each to attend, and tickets are only open to Soho House Members and via the event sponsors like YouTube, SKY tv , TikTok etc. For that you get eleven bands over two stages, and all day complimentary drinks and food from over 20 providers....and there is a full complimentary funfair as well. Includes champers, different spirits, wines, beers, lobster, Pizza East, Dirty Burger and much more. They always seems to be lucky with the weather, as it is another lovely sunny day. The changeovers are quick as only five to ten mins between acts so you kinda choose the ones you like to see , and the other times you are eating and drinking and generally mooching about. They always put on a nice mix of good hotly tipped new acts and more well known older acts. Having said that , half of this white middle class crowd don't really even watch the bands. SPORTS TEAM arrived on stage at 3.45pm for their 30 mins set. They released their debut album on 5 June 2020 on Island Records and Bright Antenna Records. The lead single "Here's The Thing " (last song played tonight) was released on 17 February 2020.The album received four out of five stars from NME, and was nominated for the Mercury Prize in 2020....a really good lively set. SELF ESTEEM arrived on stage at 5.10pm for her 35 mins set. She is backed by three female backing singers & dancers. Some good songs with sweary girl power attitude. WET LEG arrived on stage at 6.45pm for their 35 mins set. Over the past year they have become one of the most hyped acts in the country. Since i saw them supporting at The Forum, their debut album went in at number one in April 2022. The two main girls do a good job of playing nice breezy pop tunes. PRIMAL SCREAM arrived on stage at 7.25pm for their 50 mins set. Easily the best band on my radar to see for me on today's bill. Booby Gillespie is still one of the coolest rock stars out there, dressed in all white tonight. A nice big screen featuring great pre-recorded images. A great set , with many gems played including... Swastika Eyes Jailbird Movin' On Up Country Girl Rocks FATBOY SLIM arrived on stage at 9.15pm for his 60 mins set. As he is a DJ, his show is very visual with loads of lights and big screen images. He is an ideal headliner for this crowd that likes to dance. Always good to hear his golden oldies "Praise You", "Right Here, Right Now" and "The Rockerfeller Skank"...an enjoyable finish to an excellent day out.
