Thursday 28 July 2022.

Thursday 28 July 2022...7pm to 10pm... GUN CONTROL with me on drums had a rehearsal in North Acton. We ran through our 10 song setlist three times. We will have a stand-in singer for our gig in Shepherds Bush on Sat 13 Aug 2022. It was the second of three rehearsals we will have for the gig. ------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------- Wednesday 27 July 2022. 27 July 2002...It was 20 years ago today that THE SEX PISTOLS played Crystal Palace Sports Arena. Their first show since 1996 Filthy Lucre tour - The Pistols at The Palace . What a great day on what was the hottest weekend of the year so far .I got to C Palace area at noon and did not get back home until after 5am .Sadly missed all the support bands apart from Rapture who were ok .I had backstage passes so was there before and after the band did their 90 mins stunning set feat songs they had never played live before .I watched them from the front .Anarchy In The Uk,God Save The Queen and Pretty Vacant are the 3 greatest singles of all time .After there was a great party at the venue then on to another party for the band at a venue in Wandsworth , SW London . What a mega day . I went to a rehearsal earlier that month in North London as Jones, Cook, Matlock got ready for it. There is some decent footage of the gig on YouTube. Fact...it is the longest show The Sex Pistols have played in their career. Later that year i would be in California, USA for their only other show that year. ------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------- Sunday 24 July 2022. EALING BLUES FESTIVAL WEEKEND at Walpole Park, Ealing, London W5. A great value small weekend festival...Chris Jagger Band headlined the Saturday. Day tickets are just 10 plus 1 booking fee....or 12.50 on the door. Weekend tickets are just 17.50 plus 1.75 booking fee....20 on the door. ----------------- A couple of thousand folks here...and quite a few here i know. A mainly older crowd, so many have brought picnics and fold up chairs. 7.45pm to 9pm (75 mins) - ROBERT HOKUM and the GREAT WEST GROOVE BIG BAND. They did a decent set of blues covers and some blues instrumental jams. They ended playing longer than the headline band tonight. Robert Hokum puts the event on, so his band always get to be main support before the headliners. 9.40pm to 10.40pm (60 mins ) - WILKO JOHNSON BAND I was lucky to see the legendary Dr Feelgood with and without Wilko Johnson in the late 1970s. Have seen him solo a few times and was at his one-off show with Roger Daltrey at Shepherds Bush Empire in Feb 2014 to promote the album they did together. The blues trio feature funky bass player Norman Watt-Roy (ex Ian Dury & The Blockheads) and drummer Dylan Howe (who is the son of Yes guitarist Steve Howe). Wilko Johnson is now aged 75, and has survived his cancer diagnosis back in 2013. Wilko still has that unique chopping guitar style, as he often machine guns the audience. Norman Watt-Roy funky bass is still loud and very upfront. An odd thing happened after around 30 mins as Norman Watt-Roy was sick on stage. They took him backstage for a couple of minutes as Wilko jammed away on his guitar, until his return. Several solo songs played including a couple that felt a bit ramshackle in places. Highlights of the show were the four Dr Feelgood classics played... Going Back Home Roxette Back In The Night She Does it Right An enjoyable show.
