Friday 07 October 2022. MAXIMO PARK live at The Roundhouse. Maxïmo Park are an English alternative rock band, formed in 2000 in Newcastle upon Tyne. The band consists of Paul Smith (vocals), Duncan Lloyd (guitar), and Tom English (drums). The band have released seven studio albums: A Certain Trigger (2005), Our Earthly Pleasures (2007), Quicken The Heart (2009), The National Health (2012), Too Much Information (2014), Risk to Exist (2017) and Nature Always Wins (2021). The first two albums went gold in the UK and their debut was nominated for the Mercury Prize. I saw Maximo Park in 2006 when they supported New Order at Wembley Arena. Maximo Park have had 4 x Top 10 albums in the UK. Maximo Park have had 8 x Top 40 singles in the UK, including a Top 10. ------------------ Not sold out tonight, but the venue is pretty full. PIP BLOM arrived on stage at 8pm for their 30 mins set. They played some decent indie tunes , with female vocals. MAXIMO PARK arrived on stage at 9.05pm for their 90 mins set. Singer Paul Smith is wearing his trademark bowler hat as usual. His friendly Geordie stage banter went down well with the crowd. One of those bands that have ticked along nicely, mainly due to their student following. A well paced set of uptempo indie-rock tunes, that gradually got the crowd dancing more and more. They said it was " a singles show" , even though they have only had the one Top 10 single. Highlights included "Our Velocity" , "Apply Some Pressure" and "Girls Who Play Guitars". A really good show. Full MAXIMO PARK setlist played tonight.... All of Me The Night I Lost My Head Leave This Island Hips and Lips Baby, Sleep The National Health Karaoke Plays (London online poll selection) I Want You to Stay Questing, Not Coasting Great Art Get High (No, I Don't) Our Velocity What Equals Love? The BBC owned network behind channels such as Gold and Dave - has announced a photography exhibition to take place in October. Over the weekend of Friday 7th -Sunday 9th October 2022, the broadcaster will host the free exhibition near Covent Garden in central London. At The Stables, 40 Earlham Street, they will display a range of original props from Dave, W, Yesterday and Drama programmes, alongside more than 170 photographs commissioned for original series. Promoting the broadcasters catch-up platform UKTV Play, it aims to encourage users to sign-up to and discover the free service. UKTV explain: "The pop-up exhibition celebrates commissioned photography for UKTV's Original programming over the last seven years. From Big Zuu's Big Eats ( Big Zuu was here) to Bangers And Cash to Stacey Dooley Sleeps Over, the space will host artwork from a variety of UKTV's much loved programming, all available to stream for free on UKTV Play. "Attendees will also see a range of props displayed from Dave, W, Yesterday and Drama content and guests will easily be able to access information about their favourite programmes and props through scanning the adjacent QR code via their smart phone. The link will take them directly to the UKTV Play site." Complimentary wines, beers and canapes for all guests. then 7pm to 9.30pm THE BAR AT 12 HAY HILL - launch party - 12 Hay Hill, Mayfair, London W1. Luxurious Mayfair private members club open their new bar, in the basement. A great location as it is between Berkeley Square and Dover Street. Before arriving here , we saw SIMON LE BON go in the nearby Sexy Fish restaurant & bar. We had a piano player named Ben Noke play two sets of cover versions. Complimentary drinks including three different cocktails, wines, beers and canapes. My fave was an exquisite combination of whiskey and coffee with Frangelico Foam. As it is Mayfair, the cocktails would normally cost £15 a pop. then 10pm to 11pm The Royal Exchange Pub , Paddington, London W2. The Clash bass playing legend PAUL SIMONON is the DJ again here tonight. Paul is helping his friend out who owns the pub every Thursday , get some extra revenue in. Pub only holds around 20, but there must be 100 folks outside on the pavements. CHRIS MUSTO , the current drummer in The Glen Matlock Band was here.
