Thursday 27 October 2022....I went to two events tonight... 6pm to 7.45pm ICELANDAIR "AROUND THE CORNER" - private view - Phonica Records, 51 Poland Street , London W1. We are in the large basement area of this cool vinyl dance record store in Soho. Iceland (the country) is coming to London! Icelandair has partnered with Inspired by Iceland, Blue Lagoon, and 66°North to create an unforgettable one-off experience in the middle of Soho. A series of free events will bring the best of Iceland to you. From 28 to 30 October, Iceland (the country) will literally be around the corner – and everyone’s invited! Register for tickets via Eventbrite Duration: We recommend that visits take around 1 hour Age requirements: All ages are welcome, with Sunday a dedicated family day Accessibility: The event is wheelchair accessible ---------- They have done a stunning job of transforming the basement area , as if you were in Iceland. Spread over three areas Ice---Land---Air All the staff , including the bar staff have been flown over by Icelandair. There are headphones for each of the areas. We have videos of Iceland showing The Blue Lagoon and The Northern Lights and an introduction from DAMON ALBARN on the big screen. Damon Albarn has been coming to Iceland for nearly 30 years. What started as a quest to find the country he once saw in a dream has morphed into an extended affair. We have a DJ playing cool tunes. We have a display from the only Lava Show In The World A female singer-songwriter from Iceland performed. Complimentary vodka cocktails, gin cocktails , lagers and eight types of canapes from Iceland. There were five spin the wheel prizes, including a pair of return flights to Iceland. Well worth a visit to give you a taste of Iceland , as your next holiday location. I have never been to Iceland, but it is certainly on my list to visit. then 8.15pm to 10pm THE NEW BLACK VANGUARD - private view - Saatchi Gallery , Kings Road, Chelsea , London SW3. You know this event will be good , as the sponsors are BURBERRY. Around 300 guests here with half the crowd from Caribbean /African communities as all the photos on the walls are black folks from modelling, music, fashion, film and street normal. The photos have been taken by 15 international black photographers. Complimentary Pommery champers, Negronis and lots of different canapes and desserts. A female DJ is playing tunes in the background. It is on here until 22 Jan 2023. -------------------------------- -------------------------------- Wednesday 26 October 2022...I went to two events tonight... 6.45pm to 8.55pm. THE HORROR SHOW! - private view - Somerset House, Strand, London WC2. This exhibition celebrates 50 years of creative rebellion through three sections - Monster, Ghost and Witch. An intriguing trawl through the nightmares of youth culture from over the decades. Featuring art from Spitting Image to Siouxsie Sioux, this new Somerset House exhibition is as fun, anarchic and disturbing as punk itself. The punk section items and photographers showing here included Jamie Reid, Jordan, Dennis Morris, Ray Stevenson, Poly Styrene etc. A lively big crowd of maybe 300 guests including a nice surprise to see NICK CAVE. Many of the guests are dressed in goth and ghoulish attire. Also PHILIP SALLON , SPIZZ ENERGI , PAM HOGG and 6' 6" head to toe latex artist PANDEMONIA. Complimentary wines, beers and nibbles for all guests. It is on from 27 Oct to 19 Feb - book via their website - £16.50 or £12 for concessions. then a few minutes across the road to... 9pm to 11.30pm. RAINDANCE FILM FESTIVAL - opening gala party - Waldorf Hotel, Aldwych, London WC2. They are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year - 26 Oct to 05 Nov. This party was held after the showing of the opening film nearby "Corner Office". They are showing classic films along with some exclusive premieres at their venues. Also interviews and QnAs with the directors and actors etc. Curzon Mayfair Curzon Soho Genesis Mile End The Garden Cinema, London WC2 Rio Cinema, London E8 Over 300 smartly dressed folks here, and always nice to see the girls in their posh frocks. Folks love their selfies on the pretend red carpet with the Raindance Billboard behind. Always nice to be in the ballroom at this historic five star hotel. We have a nice 1920s swing band playing live and there is a DJ after the band. A few actors here including VANESSA REDGRAVE and JONATHAN PRYCE. Complimentary prosecco , wines and canapes for all the guests. Not as good as last year , when we had champers, vodka cocktails and bowl food at The Dorchester. A nice buzzy party , and a nice friendly crowd. All guests got a goodie bag on departure.
