BLACK COUNTRY NEW ROAD live at Shepherds Bush Empire.
Black Country, New Road (commonly abbreviated to BCNR or BC,NR) are an English art rock and post-rock band formed in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire in 2018.
Tonight was the first of two sold out shows at this venue, as part of their UK & European Tour.
Both their albums have made the Top 5 in the UK charts.
Their debut album was also nominated for The Mercury Album Prize.
Earlier this year they released ' Live at Bush Hall' on DVD and album.
-----------
The promoters tonight are Bird On The Wire and the band are signed to Ninja Tune so you know
the crowd are gonna be full of cool music fans....the type you would see at Arcade Fire etc.
MAY arrived on stage at 8pm for her 30 mins set.
May is actually May Kershaw, the piano player in BCNR.
She is joined by a female duo of violin and clarinet for some instrumental tracks.
BCNR arrived on stage at 9pm and played for 75 mins.
A basic stage production , with just their equipment on stage .
Six musicians on stage ( 3 X male and 3 X female ) including piano and violin.
They have a pretty unique sound as they mix indie-rock with orchestral.
A highlight was ' Turbines/Pigs' and it’s clear to see why it’s a fan favourite from Live at Bush Hall. The near-10-minute track is goosebump-inducing, gorgeously crafted and sung, and feels wise beyond their years. As the lights on the stage focused solely on May Kershaw for the solo-piano opening, and slowly, as the song progresses, reveal the rest as they come in, with some manic drumming , it was true magic.
The crowd listened respectfully during the tracks, then big applause.
At the end of the show, the band got a full standing ovation.
A good show.
