Wednesday 10 January 2024. Happy Birthday to ROD STEWART who is 79 today. Raysgigs was the first place that mentioned Rod reuniting with The Faces...although it took several years to actually happen. I did around 20 media interviews relating to it. This is what NME.COM said in Nov 2008. Frontman Rod Stewart told Raysgigs.com that all the original members aside from late bassist Ronnie Lane, who died in 1997, were set to reconvene on Monday (November 17) to run through their old hits. The singer, who spoke at the Claridges Bar 10th Anniversary Party said the band, which includes current Rolling Stones‘ guitarist Ronnie Wood, will use Stewart‘s touring bassist to fill in for Lane. The actual tour with The Faces did not actually happen , and Ronnie got fed up waiting for Rod to commit , so a couple of years later, i saw Mick Hucknall take over vocal duties for The Faces reunion , which also included Glen Matlock on bass. The Faces with Rod and Ronnie would eventually only do the one show in 2015 at Hurtwood Park , Surrey ...i was there. --------------------------------------- --------------------------------------- Tuesday 09 January 2024. ALADDIN panto at Theatre Royal , Windsor. Catch the 'sensational' Aladdin panto before it flies out of Windsor! Returning for his 10th Windsor Pantomime, everyone’s favourite fox Basil Brush is back alongside Windsor favourites Steven Blakeley, Kevin Cruise And Anita Harris. Plus, joining them this year is star of The Real Marigold Hotel Patti Boulaye, and TV trickster Paul Zenon! Featuring Theatre Royal Windsor’s traditional pantomime comedy capers, dazzling dancers, colourful costumes, and a sprinkling of magic, you won’t want to miss this ‘Genie’-ous show. This is the 85th season of panto at this venue. It is on until 14 January. ---------- This cosy 633 capacity theatre looks half empty tonight. The show is on for around 1 hour 50 mins over two sets. It is more a family panto compared to the excellent Palladium adult panto last week. Although there were a few Carry On type innuendos like " Let me rub this lamp , and see what happens". Some familiar faces from the 1970s /1980s on stage inc Anita Harris who is now aged 81. Patti Boulaye who is now aged 69. Basil Brush was around when it was black & white TV. Lots of silliness and lots of cover songs performed. A few topical jokes about politicians and nearby areas. There was a full on Barbie tribute with outfits and that very catchy song , and they threw out a dozen beach balls. Aladdin flew over the front stalls on his flying carpet. A full on slapstick version of 12 Days of Christmas was very entertaining , as was the four little girls on stage for some cure audience participation ...ages 5, 9, 3, 3 . An enjoyable show.
